Cooking at the click of a button

Cooking, culinary, cuisine, these words are on the tip of every food lover, be it man or woman. But now here is a novel concept in cooking. It has gone on line and you have bojoon.com courtesy Sandamalee de Fonseka. Chamitha Kuruppu met this wonder cook, who gave details of on line cooking.

Hosting a dinner with your favourite dishes will not be a hassle any more. Say good bye to all those expensive restaurants, because this time you will be preparing the entire meal. But, no, not alone, with a top chef - in a professional manner.

The day cooking becomes the passion of many a busy woman, will not be so far off. 'bojoon. com', the first of its kind in Sri Lanka is ready to help food lovers to learn the art of cooking the right way - from a simple Sri Lankan pickle to the most exotic gourmet cuisine.

Introducing western type innovative cuisine programs in the country Sandamalee de Fonseka, founder of bojoon.com has taken the initiatives to promote authentic and contemporary Sri Lankan food among locals as well as foreigners.

These unique programs are conducted by top chefs and held in well-known hotels and restaurants around the country. Sandamalee guarantees, that unlike mere cooking demonstrations their culinary programs are more lively, interactive and entertaining. "Each participant will be given a separate work station, ingredients and they can enjoy the full meal they have prepared with the chef amidst a lively, informal discussion," points out Sandamalee.

Participants are free to interact with the chef and to discuss the dishes prepared as well as any other culinary matter. Participants will be provided with recipes of the dishes prepared, a special bojoon.com chef apron and hat and most important a bojoon.com certificate. More than any of these, each participant will be armed with new culinary skills to boast about.

The program at the Hotel Tea Factory, which prepares dishes using tea as the main ingredient and the program at Hotel Golden Sun with coconut as the main theme are some of the popular sessions conducted by bojoon.com. To entertain those for those with a sweet tooth, Sandamali has introduced a special Chocolate Pastry program.

Sandamalee who holds a BSc degree from the University of London in Information Systems, says her love for food made her introduce this novel concept in Sri Lanka. Sandamalee feels that although many foreign cuisine such as Mexican, Japanese, Thai are popular in the country, not many food lovers favour Sri Lankan food. "Because, we have had it for so long we are unable to recognise how healthy and delightful Sri Lankan food is".

With a desire to promote Sri Lankan cuisine, Sanadamali's first step was to launch a website, which had all the information about both local and foreign gourmet cuisine.

"I felt that people didn't want to read about food, either they want to make food or eat food," says Sandamalee coolly. The next step taken by her was the novel culinary programs.

With an ambition to make Sri Lanka, the culinary hub of the world, her next goal will be to tie up with hotels in the region in order to carry out her programs internationally.

"Food plays a major role in a culture. This is the most effective and interesting way to study such unknown cultures," feels Sandamali.
