Music doyen pays tribute The doyen of Sri Lankan music is paying his tribute to the doctors who gave him a lease of new life. Maestro Premasiri Khemadasa, country's foremost composer, who is recovering from a kidney transplant, performs today at the Dharmaraja College Auditorium to raise funds for a much needed hostel for the patients seeking treatment at the Kidney Unit of the Kandy hospital. "Khemadasa in Concert" will be the first stage act of the maestro since he underwent a kidney transplant about three months ago and be a tribute to the medical team who operated on the ageing maestro to give him a new lease of life. Central Province Governor Monti Gopallawa has allocated a block of land for the hostel and a number of business leaders have offered financial assistance. The initial cost will be covered by a cash donation by the maestro himself, who donated money he received from the Presidential Award, which was bestowed to him about two months ago, to the project fund. Artist performing in the concert include Laxman Joseph de Seram, Amarasiri Peiris, Latha Walpola, T.M. Jayarathne, Kamal Addaraarachchi and Indika Upamali. Those who wish to contribute to the hostel fund, could contact the Kidney
Unit of the Kandy Teaching Hospital for further information. |
