PM appoints committees to lead election campaign On the advice of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has appointed a National Steering Committee to lead the presidential election campaign. The Committee consists of all political party leaders who have pledged their support to the Prime Minister and all sub committees appointed will come directly under the leadership of President Kumaratunga. The National Steering Committee consists of President Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Rajapakse, Ministers Anura Bandaranaike, Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka, D. M. Jayaratne, Susil Premajayantha, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Maithreepala Sirisena, Mangala Samaraweera, Amarasiri Dodangoda, A. H. M. Fowzi, Sarath Amunugama, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, Dinesh Gunawardena, Ferial Ashraff, D. E. W. Gunesekara, Tissa Vitarana, Douglas Devananda, M. Athaullah, Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana and Anuruddha Ratwatte. The Main Presidential Election Steering Committee: Operations Coordinator and Media Spokesman - Mangala Samaraweera. Main Political Co-ordinator - Maithreepala Sirisena United People's Freedom Alliance Parties' Co-ordinator - Susil Premajayantha Other parties and religious Co-ordinator - Jeyaraj Fernandopulle Policy and Council Co-ordinator - Nimal Siripala de Silva Economic and Foreign Affairs Co-ordinator - Dr. Sarath Amunugama Media Co-ordinator - Anura Priyadarshana Yapa Small and Medium Scale Enterprise and Private Business Sector Co-ordinator - Rohitha Bogollagama Legal Co-ordinator - John Seneviratne Publicity Co-ordinator - Sripathi Sooriarachchi. In addition to the above National Committee, 135 sub-committees consisting of Ministers and party leaders will be appointed to ensure the victory of the candidate Mahinda Rajapakse.
