Security intensified by Rashomi Silva Permanent road blocks and check points have come back to Colombo city as authorities tighten security in and around the capital following the assassination of former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadiragamar. "This is a part of new security measures we have taken after the assassination of Foreign Minister," a senior defence official said on condition of anonymity. According to him the main six sentry posts at the entry points to Colombo city are reinforced with Army and Police officials, and guards on duty were instructed to carry out random checking on vehicles entering the city. This is in addition to routine checking conducted by the Police and three arms of the security forces, the official said. Routine check posts are temporary checkpoints set up by security forces depending on information they receive on a daily basis. He also said that a combined group of Police and Army has started to check on lodges in Colombo, and already had questioned several suspect lodgers. He said that the Police and the Army have also prepared a 'name list' of residents living in rented houses, annexes and in other non permanent places. "It is very unfortunate that there are people who are trying to meet their personal revenges in a time of calamity. Some people provide false information about their foes and their suspected illegal links. This time we are very concerned about that." The list he said will help to prevent such misadventures. Public is advised to carry their identity cards whenever they are entering or travelling in the main city.
