CR set up semi-final clash with CH By Lal Gunesekera Caltex League runners-up CR & FC set up a semi-final clash with CH & FC after a comfortable 41 points (4 goals, 2 tries, 1 penalty) to 8 (1 try, 1 penalty) victory at Longdon Place yesterday after leading 13-3 at half time. In their Caltex Clifford Cup rugby quarter-final game. After a good contest in the first session where CR managed to score only two tries through left winger Sheriff and their replacement prop as well as a penalty through Pushpakumara, CR, four more tries in the second half through scrum-half Nauffer, Pushpakumara, winger Mushtaq and right winger Musaffer with Pushpakumara converting all four tries. In the first session, Hettiaratchi, put over a fine 40-metre penalty for Police, who managed to score late in the second session through one of their forwards. CR's Walpola and the Police centre were sent into Sin Bin in the latter stages of the first session. Aruna Jayasekera refereed. In the other game at Police Park, CH & FC beat Navy by 24 points (2 goals, 2 tries) to nil after a scoreless first half. Milinda Jayasinghe (2), Madipola (1) and Berty Jayasekera (1) scored the tries for CH with Nalin Dissanayake and Wijeweera converting a try each. Orville Fernando refereed. In the first semi-final on Tuesday, Kandy SC play Army at Nittawela,
while in the second on Wednesday at Havelock Park, CR battle CH. |
