Will go to Sri Lanka (...and look at monkey antics like this perhaps
) -- but not to Egypt.
In a Yes Vote on tourism in Sri Lanka, a British Guardian Travel
writer says 'When I go on holiday I want to relax, not be a foot soldier
in the War on Terror. I feel desperately sorry for the Egyptians, who
rely on tourists to provide them with an income.
But I cannot in all conscience urge holidaymakers to continue to
visit resorts where there seems to be a reasonable chance of being
caught up in a terror attack'.
He continues: I would not have the same doubts about visiting Sri
Lanka, though trouble is brewing there. A suicide bomber attacked an
army base in the capital, Colombo, and there have been airstrikes in the
northeast against the Tamil Tigers. Two British tourists were injured
when they were caught up in an attack in the Trincomalee area.
But although this region, which few tourists visit, has been sealed
off by the army, life continues as normal in the beautiful beach resorts
of the south and west.
These have not been attacked, and God forbid that they are, because
they were badly hit by the tsunami and people there are desperate for
tourist money. |
