SLBFE to secure foreign employment to Lankans
by Ananda Kannangara
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) is to secure
400,000 foreign employment opportunities to Sri Lankan workers before
December this year. This is in addition to the 51,000 jobs, already
secured by the Bureau during the first quarter of this year.
Speaking to the`Sunday Observer', Labour Relations and Foreign
Employment Minister Athauda Seneviratne expressed concern over the
continuous harassment and other hardships faced by some Lankan female
workers in foreign countries and said he would send more male workers to
work abroad in the future.
Latest SLBFE statistics reveal that unlike in the past there was a
marked decline of Sri Lankan female workers leaving the country for
foreign jobs over the first quarter of this year.
The Bureau yesterday indicated that majority Sri Lankans found jobs
over the past three months in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab
Emirates, Korea and Malaysia. |
