LTTE should forward alternative - D.E.W.
by a staff reporter
Constitutional Affairs and National Integration Minister D.E.W.
Gunasekera told the Sunday Observer that the LTTE should forward an
alternative to Eelam demand and work out a negotiated settlement.
The Minister said the LTTE should realise that all political parties
were opposed the Eelam demand. There are various options including the
Indian model, he said. Each party has its own options, but the solution
must be acceptable to all parties.
Therefore, it has become necessary to put the options at the
negotiation table, the Minister observed. Minister Gunasekera pointed
out that 30 years of war has well proved that Eelam was not realistic
and a negotiated settlement was the only way to end the conflict. At
present upholding the Ceasefire is the most important issue, he noted.
He called on the international community, political parties and the
civil society to persuade the LTTE to forward an alternative to enable
the Government to respond. |
