LTTE not committed to resume Geneva talks

The LTTE has not changed its position with regard to the indefinite postponement of the second round of talks in Geneva.

The LTTE did not provide a positive response to participation at talks in Geneva when Norwegian Special Envoy Jon Hansen Bauer met with the LTTE in Kilinochchi today (27), a media release from the Government Peace Secretariat said.

It further added: The Norwegian delegation went to Kilinochchi after having extensive discussions with the President on Saturday (27) in Colombo. The President reiterated his commitment to the peace process and indicated the unconditional resolve of the Government of Sri Lanka to participate at the second round of talks in Geneva.

The Norwegians expressed the need to discuss matters of security and safety of the SLMM operations in the aftermath of the LTTE attack on the troop transport vessel Pearl Cruise II, in which the lives of several SLMM Naval Monitors were placed in serious danger.

These discussions are expected to be limited to procedural and operational modalities of SLMM activities.
