Mayumi, Minuruwani, Heshan sets new records

Mayumi Raheem of Rainbow AC, Minuruwani Samarakoon of Gateway
International School (Kandy) and Heshan Unamboowe of Trinity performed
the best setting new National records at the final selection trial for
South Asian Games concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool
yesterday.
Raheem who flew back to Singapore for further training immediately
after the trials established new marks in the 50 metres breast stroke
(heats) 'clocking' 36.15 secs. yesterday. She also established records
in the 100 metres breast stroke (1.16.71 secs.) and in the 100 metres
free style (1.03.35 secs.).
Samarakoon who is selected to swim at the 2nd Asian Schools Swimming
Championships in Hong Kong in July showed good form account for the
record in the 100 metres butterfly stroke timing 1.10.04 secs. She also
won the 200 metres butterfly stroke (2.41.08 secs.) and 50 metres
butterfly stroke (32.27 secs.)
Unamboowe also selected for the Hong Kong trip was responsible for
the other record in the 100 metres back stroke (1.02.68 secs.). He also
went on to win the 200 metres individual medly (2.22.39 secs.), 200
metres back stroke (2.20.70 secs.) and 50 metres back stroke (28.79 secs.).
Meanwhile Steffan Daniel Lee who will go back to Australia on Monday
to continue training under the Australian coach won a good double in the
50 metres free style (25.64 secs.) and 100 metres free style (55.76 secs.).
Prabha Madhavi Dharmadasa of Asian International School won the 50
metres back stroke (34.18 secs.), 100 metres back stroke (1.14.92 secs.)
and 200 metres back stroke (2.48.47 secs.).
