Hitech Mag City a boon to motorists

Mag City, the hi tech Auto Maintenance Super Mart in Colombo has a service capacity of over 200 vehicles at any given time.

The modified third floor of the three-storeyed Mag City building now has a lift to carry vehicles and other equipment to repair engines and paint vehicles to meet the increasing demand of customers.

Mag City, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka opened the vehicle super mart two years ago to attend to all maintenance, repair, painting and service requirements of vehicles.

According to the Motor Commissioner's Department there are 2.6 million vehicles including cars, vans, trucks and buses. Most of them are used or reconditioned cars and vans.

Many importers get down these used vehicles from Japan and Korea even without changing the oil or replacing tyres. Therefore owners of such cars and vans face maintenance and repair problems within a short period. The brandnew vehicle owners do not face that situation since they are covered by a gurantee from the importers.

The main concept behind the Rs. 100 million Mag City Auto Maintenance Super Mart was to provide a professional and hi-tec service to owners of used imported vehicles.

Mag City (Pvt) Ltd. operates two Mag Cities in Kandy and Colombo near Punchi Borella, in addition to the main Mag City at T. B. Jayah Mawatha.

According to Jagath Parakrama, Asst. General Manager Mag City, 150 skilled and qualified auto mechanics and technicians equipped with high tech state-of-the-art computerised equipment from USA, UK and Italy are employed at the Jayah Mawatha Mag City.

The speciality of the Mag City is that it accepts any world renowned brand, new or reconditioned vehicles for any type of repairs, either engine or body repairs. "Quality service is our motto and customer satisfaction is our ultimate goal, Parakrama said.

Outlining plans for expansion, Parakrama said they hope to open a technical college in a few month's time.

"We feel that there is a need for a technical college. We not only focus on auto vehicles but also on civil engineering, duty culture and much more.

Maintenance work such as A/C repairs, electrical repairs, computerised wheel alignment and balancing, head lamp alignment, computerised shock absorber and suspension testing and auto transmission and fluid changing are carried out in the Mag City.

An accident repair centre undertakes any type of accident repair from body tinkering to a full body painting while touch up and dents are done within a day.
