Govt. gives individual traders okay for goods shipment to Jaffna
The
government has given the green light to the private sector to transport
essentials and other commercial goods via sea route to the Jaffna
peninsula.
The government has also welcomed the private sector ship operators to
transport goods between Trincomalee and Jaffna.
According to the new directive, private sector businessmen could
transport commercial goods ranging from essential food items, textiles,
motorcycles to alcohol via sea route from Trincomalee harbour to the
Kankasanthurai harbour.
This directive is taken to minimise the impact on the civilian
population in the Jaffna peninsula due to closure of Alpha 9 main supply
road at the Muhamalai entry-exit point due to continuing fighting in
Pallai.
Initiatives have also been taken to ease the fuel shortage in the
Jaffna peninsula and sum of eight million rupees have been allocated to
upgrade the bus service in the Jaffna peninsula. |
