Ten new records on penultimate day

Nine new meet records and one meet record was established on the
penultimate day of the 12th National School Games in analysis conducted
by the Ministry of Education at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
The record breakers were K. D. Abeysinghe of A. Ratnayake MMV, Walala
in the boys under-19 1500 metres timing 4:01:50 secs. Viraj Charitha
Vithana of D. S. Senanayake College in the boys under-9 100 metre heats
‘clocking’ 10:96 secs. Prasad Dharmaratne of Holy Cross Kalutara, boys
under-21 100 metre heats 10:91 secs. S. D. Ushantha Asiri of
Anuradhapura MMV boys under-17 110 metres hurdles - 14:26 secs.
Gayanthika Thushari of Suriyawewa National School, girls under-21 1500
metres returning a time of 4:38:13 secs. H. G. Ranmini Madusha of
Henagama MMV girls under-15 100 metres heats - 12:97 secs. W. M. Sonali
Kumari Weerasekera of Sevamuktha MV, Polonnaruwa in the girls under 19
discus throw with a distance of 4:38:57 metres. Dewni Madurapperuma of
Musaeus College girls under-17 discus throw 35.29 metres.
R. M. C. Subashini of Senanayake MMV, Madampe in the girls under-21
400 metres 55.87 secs.
S. Anandagoda of Mahamaya College, Kandy gave an impressive
performance in the girls under-17 100 metre heats.
She sprinted away to equal the 15-year-old mark of Damayanthi Darsha.
The timing return was 12.54 secs. Tomorrow she is expected to erase of
the 1991 record of Darsha.
Today the meat will be continued with half marathon for boys and
girls starting at 7 a.m. Then the other event will start from 1 p.m.
followed by the closing ceremony and distribution of awards. |
