Fashion Designer of the year contest

The semi-final round of the Fashion Designer of the Year competition organised by veteran fashion designer Chula Nanayakkara Ariyaratne was held at the BMICH last week amidst a large gathering, with 83 competitors participating.

Ten finalists were selected by a panel of judges: Damayanthi Ransinghe, Jeevarani Kurukulasooriya, Fashion Designer Kirthi Sri Karunaratne (Chairperson), Rashmi de Silva, (Marketing DHL), Rosanne Koelmeyer Anderson, Associate Editor (Features) Sunday Observer and Trudy Malalgoda Amadoru, are seen in the picture.

The contest is sponsored by Singer Fashion Academy with DHL as co-sponsors. The Sunday Observer and Daily News are the media sponsors. This year's winner will be chosen, one from each of the four categories - saree, evening, casual and office wear. Each winner from these categories will be awarded a sewing machine from Singer.
