Country needs 4000 IT graduates annually

Sri Lanka's IT industry is growing at an unprecedented pace. According to latest Industry Reports, the annual requirement of IT professionals is about 4,000. We are proud to say that, we at SLIIT produce approximately 40% of this requirement which is a combination of Degree and Diploma holders said Professor Lalith Gamage, Managing Director/CEO-The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT).

SLIIT has registered its batch of 1,000 students for 2007.

The new students will sign up for B.Sc. in Information Technology (IT) Degree program specialising in Information Technology (IT), Information Systems (IS) and Computer Systems and Networking (CS&N).

The intake to SLIIT each year has been around 1,000 students. SLIIT offers a variety of programs, which includes B.Sc. in IT, B.Sc. (Special Honours) in IT, M.Sc. and several professional development programs targeted towards professionals to suit the industry needs.

The prime reason for the increasing demand for SLIIT graduates is the excellent quality of the lecturing staff and the modern curriculum incorporating the latest developments in the field of IT to satisfy the needs of the IT industry both nationally and internationally.

SLIIT's strong links with the IT industry here and abroad, has helped the students have an excellent opportunity for employment.

Moreover, top IT companies such as Virtusa, IFS and Millennium IT have recruited and are recruiting large number of graduates from SLIIT.

This speaks volumes for the reputation earned by SLIIT over a relatively short time span of successful operation, he said.

SLIIT has a highly qualified academic staff, a career focused education, innovative study program and outstanding facilities. SLIIT has an excellent library, laboratory and R&D facilities.

Added to this is the modern student housing, a variety of sports, clubs and Societies to suit ones mood or desire aimed at making the student a well-rounded individual.

The degree awarded by the SLIIT is recognised by several countries, while the completion of the first two years at SLIIT will provide a gateway for any students to obtain a degree from over hundred foreign universities and institutes of their choosing.
