Portfolios - UNP undecided
The United National Party is yet undecided on accepting
portfolios under the proposed Memorandum of Understanding between the SLFP and the UNP scheduled to be signed possibly on October 23.

UPF asks 16 Parliamentary seats
The Up-country People’s Front (UPF) submitted its proposals
with regard to the new Electoral Reforms to the Select Committee on
Electoral Reforms last week. Deputy Minister P. Radhakrushnan of the
Up-country People’s Front told the Sunday Observer that the proposals
stressed the need to “ensure at least 16 seats in the parliamentary
representation for the Up-country Tamils (Malayaga Tamils)”.

Maithripala on SLFP - UNP talks
The Government said in a press
release that it would not hold any responsibility on different opinion
and certain newspaper reports on the SLFP-UNP talks, since such reports
and opinion are made on their own.
