Residents quit LTTE held areas

Over 151 civilians in the LTTE held areas have moved into Welikanda in fear of abduction of their children by the LTTE, military sources told the Sunday Observer.

Sources said “these civilians from Andamkulam, Batticoloa had reached Welikanda last week and sought refuge at Thuchenai. Among them, there are 71 teenagers, sources said.

The LTTE had forced the parents to hand over their children to the LTTE. Later, they have left their houses in Andamkulam, having taken jungle routes for three days to reach Welikanda by evading the LTTE check points in the area, sources added.
