Joes win
Fine all-round efforts by skipper Rajiva Weerasinhe and Angelo Mathew
helped St.Joseph’s to beat D. S. Senanayake by 8 wickets in their school
cricket encounter played at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday. Angelo Mathew
fresh from his return from Shenley Club in England struck an unbeaten 48
and took 5 for 22 while skipper Rajiva Weerasinghe hit an unbeaten 50
captured 4 for 5.
D. S. Senanayake: 192 and 65 (L.Weragala 18, A.Mathew 5 for 22,
R.Weerasinghe 4 for 5).
St. Joseph’s: 171 for 9 declared. (A. Livera 27, A. Mathew 21, R.
Weerasinghe 50 n.o, I. Udana 4 for 73) and 87 for 2 (A. Mathew 48 n.o.).
Annites fare well
St. Annes College, Kaurunegala registered a first innings win over
Trinity College Kandy in their schools cricket match at the Asgiriya
Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
St. Annes: 276 for 6 decl. in 81 overs (S. S. Silva 70, Y. Kanumale
10, N. C. Rodrigo 30, N. Perera 46, R. D. A. S. Wanninayake 60 not out,
S. Wickrema 3 for 42, R. Perera 2 for 45, S. Pathirana 2 for 50) and 76,
for 8 will in 32 overs (R. D. A. S. Wanninayake 24, K. N. R. Madusanka
23, Sachith Pathirana 3 for 20, R. Bandara 2 for 12, R. Perera R. Perera
2 for 19).

Rajapakse - Ladies champ
M.G.S. Rajapakse emerged champion at the Sampath Bank Victoria Ladies
Open 2006 Golf Tournament. Rajapakse carded a net 40 Stableford points
off a handicap 29 on the first day’s play and determined to improve on
her scores had a net aggregate of 79 points on the final day.
The tournament had large field and golf was played in fine weather
conditions. Head of Marketing of Sampath Bank Tharaka Ranwala was the
chief guest at the awards ceremony.
Visakha win Edusooriya Trophy
Visakha Vidyalaya lifted the Edusooriya Challenge Trophy when they
beat Ladies College on a penalty shoot out 2-1 after the Annual
Waterpolo Encounter ended in a 2-nil draw played at the Ladies College
pool yesterday. In the first quarter the scored were level 101 and
Visakhians led 2-1 in the second quarter. The third saw Ladies College
coming par 2-all. There was scoring in the fourth quarter. The extra 6
minutes also there was a deadlock. Then the penalty shoot out was
implemented and Visakha won it 2-1. Goal scorers for Visakha were
Lukshani Ratnayake, Rovini Illukkumbura and for Ladies College, Isuru
Beneragama and Gabriella Mohammed.
In the under-15 match Ladies College beat Visakha Vidyalaya 2-1.
Lankans in World Cup for blind
Sri Lanka will participate at the 3rd World Cup for blind cricketers
to be staged in Islamabad, Pakistan, from December 1 to 16 together with
Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and West
Indies.
The National Cricket Association of the Blind (NCAB), has conducted
trials etc earlier this year. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have been
assisting the NCAB quite a lot with Kumar Ramanathan and Hemal Mendis
involved in the coaching of the blind cricketers.
The Secretary of the NCAB, Rienzie Benedict, said that a sum of Rs. 1.5
million is required for air tickets, passports, visas, cricket
equipment, coaching etc and request donars to contact him.
In the earlier two World Cup tournaments, Sri Lanka, won only one

Six-a-side cricket up for competition
Public Services Club, Kandy will be having a six-a-side cricket
tournament alongside its indoor games tournament (Bridge, Billiards,
Carrom, Auction Bridge etc).
1. Under 40, over 40 and over 50 six-a-side softball cricket
tournament.
2. Women’s six-a-side open cricket tournament.
Entries for the tournaments close on or before October 15. The
