Five Sri Lanka women to box at World Championships

Five leading women's pugilists have been picked to represent the
country at the World Women's Boxing Championships to be staged in New
Delhi, India from November 17 to 24.
They are scheduled to leave the country on Thursday (November 16).
The team of women boxers include Anusha Kodituwakku from Slimline (Pannala)
who has brought honour to the country at various international meets and
Nilmini Jayasinghe also from Slimline.
The former will "fight" in the Light Fly Weight (48 KG and under) and
the latter in the Fly Weight (50 Kg and under).
The other three boxers are from the Army. They are Chandrika Guruge
(Pin Weight - 46 Kg and under), M. M. Susantha (Walter Weight - 63 Kg
and under) and Niluka Karunaratne (Light Weight - 60 KG and under).
Captain R. K. Indrasena is the coach with Sumith Prasanna also from
the Army as his assistant, while Major Hemantha Weerasinghe also
accompanies the five boxers to New Delhi. |
