Call to provide incentives for fruit and vegetable growers in
rural areas

The Sri Lanka Fruit and Vegetable Producers
Processors and Exporters Association has called upon the government
to provide incentives for private sector entrepreneurs who start
businesses with organised farmers in rural areas such as Moneragala,
Ampara and Hambantota districts in the Southern and Uva provinces.

Urban regeneration the need of the hour
The city of Colombo sits on an urban nightmare
time bomb, due to inadequate measures of urban regeneration,
persisting through decades. "Now, we cannot say that Colombo will
turn out to be like Mumbai or Chennai, teeming with shanty
townspeople, with packed trade and immobile infrastructure, because
these metropolises are being regenerated," president Chamber of
Construction Industry of Sri Lanka Surath Wickremasinghe said.

SMEs go for joint ventures with Indian brass companies
Fifteen happy SMEs and one large non-ferrous
manufacturer returned to Sri Lanka from a visit to Jamanagar and
Rajkot in Gujarat, India. They were less captivated by visiting the
world's hub of cast metal manufacture, and more, by the realisation
that they are within reach of improving the quality of their output,
to qualify import substitution and to meet overseas demand.
