At the 'Sri Lankans' launch

The book titled 'Sri Lankans' Martin Pieris was launched recently at Barefoot Gallery. Chief Guest of the evening Lester James Peries stressed on some of the interesting facets of the many people who's portraits the photographer had captured for his book.

Interestingly many of the persons who are featured in his book were present at the launch and a few of them who are not around any more were represented by their immediate kith and kin.

Actor Ravindra Randeniya in his speech referred to how Sommerset Maugham had made his observances clear about the natives of this country and in one instance says that the Ceylonese (Sri Lankans) are a unique race which made him think that each one of them are original in features, the rest of the world is merely reproductions.
