Thora's win Mustang's again

S.Thomas' retained the Mustang Trophy for the third consecutive year when they defeated Royal by 34 runs in a low scoring limited overs match played at the SSC grounds yesterday.

The Thomians who opted to bat first after winning the toss could not produce the same brand of cricket which they did in their three day game and were dismissed for a disappointed 150 in 45.5 overs. Only Sashrika Pussegolla (19), skipper Ashan Pieris (16) Nizam Mazahir (21) and Weerawardene (23) made any worthwhile contributions.

Royal in pursuit of a modest 150 lost wickets at regular intervals with paceman Dinesh Walpita making early inroads capturing 4 Royal wickets for 21 runs. Royal were 79 for 7 in the 27th over, but a steady 31 runs partnership for the eighth wicket between Charith Fernando (19) and Yasith Abeykoon (15) gave some respectability to the Royal score. Royal were finally dismissed for 116 in 38.1 overs.
