SLASI to host regional ICT alliance

The Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industry (SLASI), the apex body of the software industry of Sri Lanka, will host the first Executive Committee Meeting of the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Program for 2007, in mid April.

SLASI will be organising a three-day program which will include the official proceedings of the Executive Committee as well as a business session targeted at creating stronger alliances among member economies.

The APICTA is an international Alliance which also conducts an ICT awards program initiated by the multimedia corporation of Malaysia to increase ICT awareness in the community and assist in bridging the Digital Divide in the region.

By providing networking and product benchmarking opportunities to ICT innovators and entrepreneurs in the region, the program is designed to stimulate ICT innovation and creativity, promote economic and trade relations, facilitate technology transfer, and offer business matching opportunities via exposure to venture capitalists and investors.

The 16-member economies from the Asia Pacific region- Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam which form this alliance, are guided by a Framework of Cooperation identifying how member-economies can work together in support of the regional ICT industry development and inter-economy business promotions.

With 15 of the Asian economies who have gained strong visibility in the global ICT market participating and interacting, the Sri Lankan ICT companies will have opportunities to develop and strengthen alliances by meeting the businessmen who are expected to be in Sri Lanka during this time.

To facilitate this process a business session will be convened, enabling one on one discussions to explore potential alliances.

It is expected that the business benefits from hosting this EXCO Meeting in Sri Lanka will boost the ICT economy immensely.
