Air Force win and lose

VOLLEYBALL - The reigning champions, Armys and comfortware company Wathupitiwala won the men's and womens titles at the Muncheee National Volleyball Championship finals played at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday.

The soldiers retained the title played a well controlled game to outplay Air Force in a smashing straight sets win (3-0).

Army players showed better spiking skills and superior team work. It's main asset was its strong defence and to spike above the clock. The scores 26-24, 25-19 and 33-31.

The spikers from comfortware company making their debut in the national championships played with enormous spiking power to outclass their opponents, Air Force the defending champions by 3 sets to 1 to carry away the womens title.

The winners won the first set 25/18, but lost the second 18-25. Comfortware company showed strong attack line to win the third 25/21 and fourth 25/22 and become worthy champions.

Panagoda AR sports club and Pannala Slimline SC emerged novices men's and women's champions. In the mens final Panagoda AR sports club beat Slimline SC 3-2 (22/25, 25/22, 23/25, 25/19, 15/7) while Slimline SC beat Damissara SC 3-0 (25/21, 26/24, 25/23) in the womens final.
