Woman's death: Accountant, underworld men held

An Accountant of the Dehiwela-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council and two other underworld men have been taken in for questioning by Mirihana Police Special Investigating Unit probing the killing of a woman clerk attached to the Municipal Council, a fortnight ago.

Police recovered two 380 pistols and two bombs from the house of an underworld man linked to the assassination of the woman. Two persons riding on a motor-cycle had allegedly shot the woman while she was walking along a lonely road at Minnuwanwila on April 6 around 6.45 p.m.

The woman was two months pregnant at the time of the incident. The contract killing was allegedly executed by a notorious underworld man from Dehiwela. The motive for the killing was due to personal vendetta, police said. OIC Special Investigating Unit Inspector Upul Samarasinghe and Inspector Anil and a team of police officers conducted investigations.
