Truck loads of food items on the way to LTTE held areas

The Government has sent 152 truck loads of food and other essential items to LTTE-held areas in the North.

Defence Ministry sources said the food and other essential stuffs have been sent during the period between 27 April to 03 May, 2007.

Sources said the consignments sent via Omanthai and Uyilankulam Entry/Exit points, have reached areas in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts. The truck loads contained essential items such as rice, dhal, dried fish, clothes, fuel, spices, building materials, vehicle spare parts, medicine and such for the use of civilians in Tiger-held areas.

Reports said a total of over 2,800 civilians had crossed over to the LTTE-held areas through those checkpoints while an estimated 2,775 civilians had arrived in Vavuniya from Tiger-held areas during that period.
