Under-utilized crops and fight against hunger and poverty
At present, only 150 plants are used and
commercialized on a global scale other than rice, wheat and maize,
that provide over 50 per cent of world's requirement for protein and
calories. However, there are an estimated 7, 000 species that play a
crucial role in the livelihood of poor and potential for
commercialization that could fight against extreme hunger and
poverty.
