Themiya and Thilak clinch the Lake Cross Trophy

Lake Cross: The Nuwara Eliya 4x4 Lake Cross organised by the Four Wheel Drive Club (FWDC) in association with the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council & the Nuwara Eliya Racing (NEM) Club kicked off to a great start on the 18th of April 2007 in front of a record crowd at the NEM 4x4 Track beside Lake Gregory.

This year's event was spread over two days where the first day's competitors had to earn points and qualify for the second days's finals to decide the winners.

The event which is on its third year running gained a lot of momentum from both the spectators and the competitors.

This year the reigning champion of 4x4 Lake Cross Indika Sanjaya was only able to settle for second place with his "Rain Forrest Challenge' prepared Land Rover. Osanda Maligaspe who ran his 'Rain Forrest Challenge' prepared vehicle that won.

'The most unique 4x4 in Malaysia' was on top of sores on day 1 but had to settle for the 5th position in the finals due to some debits.

Themiya Abeywickrama and navigator Thilak Hettiarachchi who qualified 6th on day 1 put up the fastest timing during the finals and clinched the year 2007 title.

Third place was a close contest between Ajith Fernando and Deepthi Perera in a Nissan Patrol and jeep Wrangler respectively where Ajith secured the podium with a narrow 0.15 seconds.

The main sponsor for this year's Nuwara Eliya 4x4 Lake Cross was CIFL (Central Investment & Finance Ltd.)

The event was co-sponsored by Jeep division of Dimo's Mobil Lubricants and Outdoorsman.
