CASA - talk of the town
It has all the trimmings of a Cinderella tale - CASA the new
up-market hotel which opened a few days ago in the heart of
Bambalapitiya. Once, this heritage house with its large spreading
verandah, twelve rooms, patterned marble tile floors struck with ill-use
has been transformed in a short period of six months into a boutique
hotel that could truly be called a showpiece, starting off from the
glimmering ornate gates.
Horst Schmidtke, the Vice President Operations at a media briefing
revealed that it was the dream of Lalin Jinasena the proprietor of the
Company L. M. Jinasena & Co. to turn this very old building into a haven
for those who enjoy luxurious peace and quiet.
The interior decor is chic and modern as modern can be. The furniture
for CASA was designed by Lalin Jinasena and all executed by creative
craftsmen in Sri Lanka. With a mixture of antique and modern furniture
and paintings the hotel has a unique look and a new lifestyle for
guests, to enjoy Sri Lanka. As Schmidtke says it was a challenge to make
it happen in six months but it turned out to be fantastic. CASA has
three dining outlets and twelve suites for the benefit of guests.
There's ZAZA out in the garden which gives you twenty seven different
varieties of Fusion Tapas - a blend of Spanish style Canapes with Asian
flavour. It is an experience.
By the side of ZAZA out in the lawn is the T-Republic equipped with
comfortable seats for a tea experience and the fine dining room called
HVN - (heaven) which serves five course meals. You can enjoy the
delicious menu in a back drop of an unusual huge painting on the wall
depicting heaven.
The twelve suites are each different in size and layout, comprising
three traveller suites, eight corporate suites fully equipped with all
the facilities a busy business man needs and of course the Royal suite -
which is luxuriously equipped.
State of the art TV's are fitted in all the rooms, modern lighting,
the bathrooms with ultra modern shower systems and unusual shaped baths
- not forgetting the pink tiled swimming pool - all spell out up market.
CASA derived from the Portuguese language has come to stay.
