'Dare to dream', latest political drama
By Anura Maitipe
The "Dare to dream" is the latest tragic political drama played by
two foes-the UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Mangala Samaraweera in
the guise of good friends. It will not bring any good to the people but
in turn will boomerang on themselves, Minister of Mahaweli and Rajarata
Development Maithripala Sirisena told the Sunday Observer.
The alliance between the UNP and the dissident group of the SLFP led
by Mangala Samaraweera has created further friction among UNP
politicians. As a result some UNP parliamentarians have expressed their
willingness to join the Government to oppose the move by the UNP
leadership, the Minister said. The deal between the UNP and the
dissident group of the SLFP called "Dare to dream" is a self-centred
dream to grab power by cheating each other.
But these two groups work together with different agendas, the
Minister said.
The UNP leadership is attempting to make use of the Mangala-Siripathy
group as a cat's paw to gain power. Mangala Samaraweera tries to make
use of this opportunity to become the opposition leader by deceiving a
weak leader of the UNP, he said. The SLFP is a strong party and on many
occasions certain groups crossed over to the opposition on various
issues. But it is regrettable that many of them ended their political
career in the UNP political dustbin, he said.
