Ex-UNP councilor remanded in forgery case

A mastermind of forged currency notes was taken in for questioning
following a raid in Panadura.
CID sleuths busted a forged local currency printing operation when
they raided a house at Keselwatte, Panadura and arrested a former
politician and a Justice of the Peace who had masterminded the operation
for some time.
The suspect was the Ex. UNP Councillor of the Panadura Pradeshiya
Sabha who was taken into custody following the raid. The suspect was
later produced before the acting Magistrate Panadura who remanded him
till July 30.
Police said several forged Rs. 1,000 currency notes were recovered
from his residence along with a computer and other accessories allegedly
used for the printing. It was subsequently revealed that the suspect had
printed forged currency notes for some time. Meanwhile the CID have
alerted banks and other business establishments to be on the look out
for forged Rs. 1,000 denomination notes.
