Giggles International School takes to cricket
CRICKET: Giggles International School at New Town, Gothatuwa is the
latest addition in the International Schools arena to take up cricket at
junior level as an extra curricular activity.
The construction of a practice cricket pitch comprising a net in the
vicinity of the school has cost them a sum of Rs. 125,000 which has been
done under the guidance of former Sri Lanka all-rounder Kumar Dharmasena.
The project will undoubtedly benefit the junior boys and girls who
are keen on developing their cricketing skills for the future. Probably
for the first time, girls of grade 5 have shown a lot of interest in the
game at Giggles and were fully geared up.
With the ICC now fully recognising women's cricket, it is high time
that other schools too, follow suit at grass roots level to catch them
young for the development of the feminine version of the game. Chairman
Sri Lanka Cricket Jayantha Dharmadasa who declared open the 'nets' said
that he was pleased with the keenness shown by the school to develop
cricket, and pledged the fullest cooperation, by providing cricket gear
and material etc.
