Good response for Junior National Tennis

TENNIS: Over 225 entries have been received for the Junior National Championships of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) to be worked off at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Greenpath from July 30 to August 12. This is being sponsored for the third successive year by ABC Insurance.

"The matches (about 500 in number) will be played on the next hard courts over a fortnight. Fourteen events are on the cards featuring five age groups", said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SLTA, Lionel Almeida.

The events for boys and girls will be Singles for Under-10 to Under-18, while the Doubles are restricted to boys and girls Under-14 and Under-16.

There will be qualifying round matches for the boys Under-14 and Under-16 Singles events.

This is the first occasion that the Junior Nationals are being played on hard courts laid at a cost of Rs. 15 million and with the unpredictable weather conditions normally experienced in August, the SLTA, are glad that the hard courts are now available.
