President's Gold Cup Volleyball Finals Aug. 5
VOLLEYBALL: The finalists in the men's and women's president Gold Cup
Volleyball Championships were found after the preliminary round games
were completed. In the men's tourney Seeduwa Siriduwa and Koswadiya
Vijaya qualified for the finals. Meanwhile in the women's tourney
Bopitiya Navodya and Radawana Golden Birds reached the final.
The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has decided to hold the finals of
both the men's and women's tourney on August 5 at the National Youth
Services Council Indoor Stadium at Maharagama.
Eight top teams from the provinces qualified for the final round in
the men's tourney. In the men's semi-finals, Seeduwa Siriduwa registered
a comfortable 3- I victory over United SC Attanagalla. The scores 23-25,
25-19, 25-18, 25-13. Koswadiya Vijaya beat Mandawala Youth Star SC 3-I
in the other semi-final, the scores 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-13.
Of the 32 teams in the women's championship, the semi-finals were
played between Bopitiya Navodaya and Sea Hawks SC, Guru Pokuna. In the
first semis, Bopitiya Navodaya defeated Sea Hawks SC by 3 sets to I:
23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21. The second semi-final saw Golden Birds SC
come out on top over Gampaha Siyanatharu SC in straight sets 3-0. The
scores were 25-13, 25-15 and 25-15.
The championships were sponsored by Dialog Telecom and conducted by
the Volleyball Federation of Sri Lanka.
