Another collection of poems by Rohan Liyanage

Since his last book of poems 'Sonduru Asapuwa' Rohana Liyanage has been putting pen on to paper with a view of continuing his creative exercise of writing poetry. His present work 'Tharaka Wessa' too is an instant where the poet isspeaking out his mind to the many poetry lovers scattered around the country.

The book which contains as many as one hundred lyrics, some recorded as songs by leading artists has impressed many leading song writers with regards to Liyanage's talent to pen lyrics with ease.

This is the poets third book of poems the first one being 'Aadaraye Vilasitha' released in 2004 followed by 'Sonduru Asdapuwa' in 2005. Son of leading poet Ariyadasa Liyanage says that he believes his fathers work is mostly inspired him to pen these lyrics with such deep inspiration.

'Tharaka Wessa' will be launched on the 30th of October at the Mahaweli Aouditorium at 4.00 pm. The crowed will be addressed by media personality Karunaratne.

D Philip, the evenings ceremonies will be followed by a musical presentation containing songs based on lyrics written by Rohana Liyanage.

Artist Susil Senanayake's work goes on show

A final year undergraduate at the University of Visual and Performing Arts Susil Senanayake will bring out his first ever one man exhibition at the Lionel Wendt Gallery on the 2nd of November at 6.30 pm.

His work is inspired by the impact that social and environmental deterioration has had on creative minds such as his.

Though he has participated in a few group exhibitions before this is Senanayake's first one man show . Necessarily an abstract painter, which he thinks gives him more scope to express himself in a wider scale the artist expects the general public to view his work and make their own comments.

The artist can be contacted on [email protected]

Inspired by his body

Artist Pramith Geekiyanage is exhibiting his paintings at present at Paradise Road Galleries. The exhibition ends on the 5th of November.

Images here are almost a preview to different sections of the body which the artist claims he is his own. Geekiyanage hails from Chilaw and appears to represent the pictures he has painted in a big way.

The brawn, strength of structure and colour are almost a duplicate of himself. But the artist is sincere at his game of proving that he can draw with strength and vigour, his sticking to a selected palette of colour is also very impressive.

Another amazing fact about Geekiyanage's work is that the content of it which is repetitive still does not tend to bore the viewer. In fact the different views of the male body appears entertaining owing to the artists total commitment and the manner in which he has enjoyed the process of executing them.

An Undergraduate holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Visual & Performing Arts, the artist has exhibited at many group exhibitions during the span of last three years. He is the recipient of the third prize for his work presented at the 'Young Contemporaries' presented by The George Keyt Foundation in 2006.

Pramiths work is inspiring both technically and artistically or even otherwise.
