Shoes out of recycled plastic
Afghan labourers use sprayguns to paint a pair of shoes made out of recycled plastic at a plastic factory in Kabul. Many Afghans collect discarded material such as iron, plastic and other metals from rubbish dumps and reuse it to make shoes or home facilities for sale which can give them an income of some 100 USD per month. AuxiCogent to expand BPO operation

AuxiCogent International (Pvt) Ltd, the BPO operation under the JKH umbrella has just concluded a contract with a client based in USA for 500 seats (the BPO industry pays by the seats). In six weeks we hope to start the operation with 40-60 persons and ramp up to 500 within 6-8 months, said Group Finance Director John Keells Holdings PLC J. Ronnie F. Peiris.

Colombo South Harbour - ADB approves financial evaluations

The technical and financial evaluations for the breakwater and dredging of the Colombo South Harbour have been completed with Asian Development Bank (ADB) approving the government evaluations, said ADB Country Director Richard Vokes. The contract is to be awarded to Hyundai Engineering Construction Co. Ltd at a cost of Rs. 36.3 billion.

Tripartite committee to increase profits of 13 factories

A tripartite committee has been appointed to increase the profits of 13 tea factories that belong to the Tea Shakthi Fund by increasing productivity. The committee is headed by Jerry Galahitiyawa while the other two members are Chief Factory Manager TSF K.B. Etipola and former Estate Superintendent S.M. Usman. The committee was appointed by Plantation Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne.
