The Divas are back
A show full of surprises:
by Prasad Abu Bakr
They all walked the ramp bringing back nostalgic memories of the way
it used to be. I am sure there were a few surprises designed for the
audience that was present at the ballroom of the Galle Face Hotel.
Who thought that Erosha could sing so well (miming to a tune by Diana
Ross and the Supremes) and Britney Spears can go overboard with her
weight (Kolu's performance was excellent) and Yoland Aluvihare could
have covered-up her uncertain steps with her overpowering persona as one
of the countries most impressive businesswomen and also that Nedra
Williams can equal her performance behind a microphone to walking side
by side with the leaders of the game.
Well there were negative comments flying about town (probably the
ones who could not afford the 5ooo/=) But the truth is that the girls
from the past walked with confidence and certainty that they can not be
easily beaten at a profession that they added a halo upon at one time.
The models, all of them, proved that modelling on a ramp can still be a
cake walk for them at any given time and that they weren't going to
change their style to please their critics.
Though the show started off late it made up by not having long gaps
in between. Naomi Rajaratnem who also belong to the rabble rouse rs that
went on stage after a astounding long gap decided to sit in the audience
and let her dancers do the honours.
It may have been a spine shattering exercise for the models and more
for the producer Lou Ching Wong who also was responsible for
conceptualising and co-ordinating the entire act. The designers brought
out some colourful collections for the evening.
Cryshanthy Fernandopulle's work was bold and colourful and her
designs appearing on a ramp after so many years was a refreshing
experience to all. Long live the Divas! |
