FICA Champions receive awards
CRICKET: The 14-member Fingara International Cricket Academy
(FICA) that emerged champions at the Inter-Academy under 14 tournament
for the Nelson Mendis Challenge Trophy together with 171 others received
their awards at the inaugural awards presentation of the FICA at the
BMICH recently.
Special awards were presented to 43 players for outstanding
performances, eight for the Most Senior Player Awards, 120 received
certificates for successfully completing the coaching programmes while
others received certificates of participation.
The most outstanding players in the different squads were: Mithila
Samarasinghe of Royal (beginner Level I), Chamath Dharmawardene of
Isipathana (biginner Level II), Kusal Mendis of Prince of Wales
(Under-13), Chamod Wickrememasinghe of D. S. Senanayake College
(Under-15), Nadun Pathrane also of D. S. Senanayake College (Under-17)
and Dilan Nanayakkara of Royal (Under-19).
Speaking on the occasion, Deshamanya Dr. Lalith Kotalawela, Chairman
of Ceylinco Consolidated, who was the chief guest, said that it was
heartening to note the progress made by the budding young cricketers who
have improved their skills with the help of the state-of-the-art
facilities and the dedicated team of qualified and experienced coaches
at FICA.
