True friends

"They are rich who have true friends" (Thomas Fuller)

We all have friends but how many of us have true friends who will be with us in prosperity and in adversity. You may have lots of friends in prosperity but in adversity you may see none. The one who remains with you through thick and thin is a true friend as Sri Rahula thero in the "Salalihini Sandeshaya" says.

"Mithuru thumo duka sapa dekehima pawathi" (Friends live with us through both prosperity and adversity.)

True friendship is a rare feeling, but when it is found it has a profound impact on our lives. It is not a thing that we can see but feel in our hearts with a finer sensation. True friendship demands trust, understanding, loyalty and sharing.

True friendship is the greatest bond between two individuals

Friends can be made easily but it is harder and takes longer to develop true friendship. Aristotal says "Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies."

True friendship is the greatest bond between two individuals. An essential feature in true friendship is trust. The trust between true friends is such that if one friend falls in trouble, the other will not think twice to help.

True friends do share with each other their most hidden secrets. These would never be revealed to others.

Also a true friend is one who helps to see the truth without hurting the friendship. It is developed through true friendship; that everlasting love unconditionally. No matter what, true friends love each other.

Continual association is not an absolute need to maintain a true friendship. Famous French author Francois Duc de La Rochefoucauld says "A true friend is the greatest of all blessings."

The bond between true friends is strong. So they can endure long distances. They find a way of being in touch despite busy schedules. True friendship never fades away. It grows better with time.

If you have a true friend don't be afraid when troubles come.

Because he or she is always with you to face them together. As true friends are aware of each other's weaknesses and their strong points they seldom find it a problem to resolve the tricky points. True friendship is selfless.

It's not easy to find true friends. So if you have even one true friend, consider yourself blessed.
