A claymore mine weighing five kgs was found near Mahawewa, Chilaw around 9.10 a.m. yesterday. Technicians of the Chilaw Electricity Board found the mine fixed near the transformer with wires hanging out. The Bomb Disposal Unit and Chilaw police defused the claymore around 11.00 a.m.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Army and police, Military Spokesman, Udaya Nanayakkara told the Sunday Observer. Meanwhile, the Army found the bodies of two LTTE cadres on the Madhu Road junction around 12.20 a.m.

The two bodies were handed over to the Vavuniya hospital to be given to the LTTE through the International Committee for Red Cross (ICRC).
