Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year voting from next
week
All arrangements have been finalised for the Observer-Mobitel
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2008 contest which starts with the
voting for the most popular category from next week.
The event will be conducted by Sri Lanka's English newspaper with the
largest circulation the Sunday Observer for the Associated Newspapers of
Ceylon Limited (ANCL) and is sponsored by Sri Lanka's fastest growing
mobile communication network Mobitel.
It would be conducted in association with Sri Lanka Cricket, Sri
Lanka Schools Cricket Association and the Sri Lanka Cricket Umpires and
Scorers Association. As the much sought-after event in the schools
cricket arena celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, the Sunday
Observer would join hands with Sri Lanka's fastest growing mobile
telephone network - Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, to present event on a
grand scale.
The popular school cricket awards show has been the stepping stone
for outstanding schoolboy cricketers to the big arena. Former Sri Lanka
Test players - Ranjan Madugalle, Arjuna Ranatunga, Asanka Gurusinha,
Roshan Mahanama, Marvan Atapattu and the world's highest wicket taker in
Test cricket - Muttiah Muralitharan are amongst the schoolboy cricketer
of the year award winners during its 30-year-old history.
