Chevron ties up with CGR now

VOLLEYBALL: Chevron Lubricants and the Ministry of Transport
signed an agreement recently at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) for a
sponsorship package amounting to Rs. 1,312,000/- to sponsor both the
men's and women's Volleyball teams of the Ceylon Government Railway (CGR).
The Managing Director/CEO of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, Kishu
Gomes, said that they were proud to be associated with the CGR
Volleyball teams and look forward to partnering them (the CGR) to win
titles this year.
Entering into the agreement with the Ministry of Transport,
Gomes,said that the CGR Volleyball team had performed well both at
national and international level with seven women representing Sri Lanka
and five represented the men's national side. Two women have also
excelled at Beach Volleyball.
Gomes went onto say that through this sponsorship, Chevron, will aim
at leveraging the individual competencies and capabilities of the
players for its further development and Chevron will also ensure that
necessary equipment is made available to the team through this
sponsorship.
Over the last 10 years, Chevron in Sri Lanka has been associated with
Motor Racing, Prokarting, club cricket, Indoor Cricket, Rugby, Sailing,
Boxing and Volleyball and in addition supports the Deaf Schools in the
country in their sports endeavours in Cricket, Volleyball and Netball.
Minister of Transport, Dullas Alahapperuma, speaking on the occasion
promised that the CGR teams could win more tournaments in the future
with the sponsorship of Chevron. He said that since CGR took to
Volleyball only in August last year (2007), they have played in five
tournaments and are already employing 16 Volleyball players and have
launched a drive to improve sports in the CGR. |
