Observer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year:

Cash prizes for readers

The original show that produced cricketing legends for the past three decades - the Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest is going great guns.

Inspired by the early response from our readers who began voting for their favourite schoolboy cricketers from last Sunday, the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) has decided to introduce cash awards worth Rs. 5,000 every week for the lucky winners.

This will be in addition to the three gift packs, SMART SIM and reload cards presented by the sponsors - Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel.

See Page 20 for more on the latest developments of the 30th Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest.

There will also be a special article by veteran sports writer, A. C. De Silva, who goes down memory lane to describe the big show in 1991 at which the world’s greatest spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan was adjudged the schoolboy cricketer of the year.
