India hails implementation of 13th Amendment
India’s Foreign Secretary, Shivashankar Menon told Minister of Social
Services and Social Welfare, Douglas Devananda that India welcomed the
move to implement the 13th Amendment and India would contribute more for
development of Sri Lanka to bring about peace and harmony.
Minister Devananda who was in New Delhi to attend the Global Minority
Conference, representing Sri Lanka met Indian leaders and officials at
discussions concerning issues regarding the rights of the Tamil-speaking
people to bring peace to Sri Lanka. A Ministry spokesman told the
‘Sunday Observer’.
Earlier Minister Devananda met Indian National Security Advisor M. K.
Narayanan in New Delhi and had a lengthy discussion on the present
political situation in Sri Lanka.
Narayanan said that he expected devolution of power to the people of
the North-East would materialise soon, consequent to which they would
play a major role in Sri Lanka’s efforts to solve the problems. |
