Kelani submersible pump cables eye Indian, Dubai markets

A new water resistant submersible pump which could withstand in depths of water has been developed by Kelani Cables Ltd, for industrial purposes. The ceremonial launch of the Kelani Submersible Pump Cables and Kelani Welding Cables took place in Colombo recently.

Kelani Cable's Managing Director Hemantha Perera said they were producing submersible pump cables to capture the Indian and Dubai power cable market. There is a tremendous demand for such cables in India and Dubai and this was the first occasion where lead free cable were manufactured in Sri Lanka for industrial application. The cable is a 100 per cent local product and does not pollute drinking water when sunk in water tanks.

Kelani Cables Marketing Manager, Anil Munasinghe said the manufacture of such cables locally saved an enormous amount of foreign exchange while a considerable amount of foreign exchange can be earned by exporting it to the Indian and Dubai markets.

The new cables will add to the other range of 160 products including building cables and industrial power cables.

Kelani Cables has a dealer network in many parts of the country including the north and the east. There are 95 distributors with six Area Sales Managers and 42 Sales Promotion Officers. The company achieved 3 billion annual turnover for 2007/2008, he said.
