Inspiring Youth
The one who leads the way to prosperity...
Motto in life: “Do something effective with the time than just
wasting doing nothing”
How do you see the youth in our country?
Actually everybody says when in older age, youth are not so good same
as our golden age and that theirs not upto the standard. We have to
understand that the society and time, in fact is changing every minute.
So are their aspirations. We should not forget that our younger
generation is very intelligent and enthusiastic. Perhaps, their
behaviour is not so good or might not respect the culture and traditions
of our country.
However in spite of all these, theirs is another sector of youth who
are engaged in social, cultural and religious activities. I think if the
youth in our country misbehave or not upto our expectations they should
not be blamed and as the older generation we should take the blame.
For example the correct examples should be given to them through
educational institutes and in all the media, especially in political
arena.
What’s the role ‘youth’ should play to contribute maximum towards the
development of the country?
They are the people who should contribute immensely towards the
development of the country and society. They should have proper guidance
and a system to make use of the young people’s intelligence, talents and
then to motivate them. If you want to make the youth contribute in a
better way, suitable and equal opportunities should be created,
immaterial of religion, race, caste or creed.
How does youth should see ‘Buddhism’ as a religion or a philosophy?
From the outset Buddhism is a philosophy and a religion. Buddhist
teachings confine to philosophical and in practical aspect. Everything
what Lord ‘Buddha’ had preached can be put into practice. In practical
Buddhism you find cultural and devout aspects.
Young people receive education at temples, dhamma schools as well as
in the public schools and about the Buddhist philosophy and also gain
knowledge of the life of Buddha and the history of Buddhist
civilization.
Every year, roughly ten million students sit for the ‘Dharmaacharya’
and in the Sunday schools the number of students are increasing. Lot of
young people tend to read Buddhist books.
On the other hand if you take the religious aspects the young
generation now observe ‘sil’ programmes and also contribute in
organising festivals, cultural events. This does not mean all the youth
are well focused but once again as the older generation we should
encourage them and have programmes specially designed for them.
What’s the role of a Buddhist youth?
They should get engaged thousands more in Buddhist activities, help
others not only in religious aspects but also in social welfare. The
Buddhist youth have the responsibility to carry on with the duties of
their older generation in areas like religious, cultural and heritage in
our country.
When achieving their aspirations, doing what is right may go wrong,
chances of doing the right thing next time would be much less. How
should a ‘youth’ be ready to take up this challenge?
Doing wrong things are very easy, Buddha has preached in
Dhamma Pada
163, 3rd stanza:
Sukarani Assadhuni
Attano Ahitani Ca
Yam’ve hitan ca sadhun ca
Tam’ ve paramadukkaram.
Meaning: Easy to do are things that are hard and not beneficial to
one self but very difficult indeed to do is that which is beneficial and
good.
How would you inspire the youth?
I would inspire them to find their abilities so that in that line one
could develop their skills and it is the best way to achieve something.
We all can be genius in all the trades, but good in some ways. We are
all good at something it is matter of getting specialised in that with
proper guidance. |
