LTTE suspects held in T'Nadu

Tamil Nadu Police arrested three LTTE suspects yesterday for alleged smuggling for Tiger terrorists. The LTTE suspects were detained under the National Security Act (NSA) while four others were arrested under the same Act for smuggling activities for the Maoist movement. The suspects were identified as Murudapandi, Muthuramalingam and R. Raja.

 


SLA troops continue advances

Over 13 LTTE terrorists were killed and many wounded when SLA troops continued advances into LTTE territory during multi-pronged offensives at the Wanni and Northern fronts, on Friday. In the Jaffna front at least seven terrorists were killed when clashes erupted between troops and the LTTE at Nagarkovil, Kilaly and Muhamalai ahead of LTTE defences.

 


Three dead, five injured in mishap

Three persons died and five others were injured in a road accident at Madurankuliya yesterday. Those injured were admitted to the Chilaw Base Hospital. Two persons with minor injuries were arrested by the police as they were suspected as gang robbers.


 


Free eye bank in Pakistan

Sri Lankan eye specialists said that an eye bank will be set up in Sialkot, Pakistan to provide free eye treatment including transplanting of corneas.

A.P. S. Abeysuriya, a Sri Lankan eye specialist told the launch of a free cornea transplanting camp at the Aleem Welfare Hospital last week that the proposed eye bank would be functional by December.
 


Policy decision on SriLankan

The Government has taken a policy decision to use the national carrier SriLankan Airlines for all foreign visits by all VIPs and Government officials.

The new management of SriLankan expects to elevate it as the state airline under commercial standards.
