New grade one admissions policy
A new policy for Grade One admissions for 2009 is currently being
formulated by the National Education Commission with the objective of
solving the issues pertaining to student admissions.
The Commission has looked into various shortcomings, hindrances and
hardships regarding the enrolment of students and will make arrangements
to rectify these shortcomings.
The new circular, to be carried out under the policy ‘Equal education
opportunities for all’, will ensure that everyone is treated equally
without any special benefits being provided to some parties.
Also, it will not favour parliamentarians or politicians as had been
the practice in the past, but would give priority to those residing
close to a particular school. Special attention however will be paid to
those whose parents are past students of the said school.
The circular will shortly be forwarded to a special team of
educationists. After obtaining Cabinet approval, it will be presented
for Parliament approval. It is finally expected to serve as the national
policy for year one student admissions. |
