I see the late Prime Minister Dudley Senanayake
as a leader with an exemplary character, which combined with a rare
combination of intellect and human kindness. No one detested or
envied him - whatever aspect of his life one looked at him or be he
a rightist or leftist extremist, social democrat, Buddhist, Hindu,
Muslim or a Christian.

New Year - is it the National Festival in Sri Lanka?
The Sinhala and Tamil New Year is an annual
event that stimulates the society, enlivens the nation and foster
national consciousness in Sri Lanka. Earlier this festival was
celebrated mainly by the Buddhists and the Hindus. Now Christians
too participate in New Year celebrations and in recent times it has
become almost a nationwide festival.

When will they learn?
We apparently never learn lessons and do not
learn from history. Jayaraj’s death is untimely and unwarranted. It
could have been easily avoided. One may argue that he is dead and
what is the use of a post mortem. It is not so. This is a loss to
the nation and as important as or more important than the loss of
Lashman Kadirgamar.
