Indu Hewapathirana

With the knack of bringing the real beauty

She handles her beauty salon on her own without help from any assistant beautician that we could hardly see in any beauty salon. Well-experienced bridal dresser Indu Hewapathirana does all kinds of beauty needs on her own because she believes that any assistant would not do well enough as she does.

She adds, “Sometimes people are reluctant to get their beauty treatment, dressing and make up done by assistants. They prefer the well-qualified owner of the salon doing them all. That is why I don’t like to keep any assistant beautician because I value my customers’ preference”.

She has been in the field for more than 15 years and she first set up her beauty salon at Maharagama. Due to some reasons later on it was shifted to Pitakotte and the newest location is in Battaramulla and all kinds of beauty treatment are done with the aid of advanced technological equipment.

Unlike many other beauticians, she said she never accepts more than one bride for dressing for one day. According to her, “If I take more than one bride for a day I have to dress the bride in a hurry and would hardly be able to satisfy them”.

She designs the bride’s dress, bouquet and jewellery on her own. So she devote her time for a particular bride in order to make the real beauty out of her with much care.

“I am concerned of the customer’s satisfaction more than money,” she explains about her passionate career. She says that she has a wide spectrum of customers and they pass the message of her ability onto others and thus more customers are attracted to her salon.

She has rendered her service free of charge for those who are unable to bear the cost and her list of price is very reasonable void of exaggerating charges. ‘Virtues are more valuable than money. Money is perishable,’ she smiles. We can scarcely find beauticians in society of such nature.

She is truly a women of good qualities. She remembers her Guru in beauty-culture, Haris Wijeysinghe with utmost respect. She said she always remembers her teacher whatever thing she is going to do in beauty culture and thanks him for teaching her the art.

She has an inborn talent for creativity. It has first been identified when she was attending St. Mary’s College, Matara. Costumes she has made has a very unique creativity. It is no exaggeration that more people like her costumes, bridal wears and bouquets.

She explains hardships she went through when she first entered the field. She has been able to gather more experience through them. She says she was able to establish on her own, that’s through her blood and sweat which made her an established entrepreneur.

Of course she didn’t forget to remind of the help she gets from her engineer husband in attaining such a success.
